Keith Bae is an associate at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP. Keith specializes in the preparation, prosecution and licensing of patent applications in the computer software, telecommunications, medical device, electrical and mechanical arts. Keith regularly prepares and prosecutes patent applications and provides non-infringement and invalidity opinions. Keith also advises clients on trademarks, copyrights in software, software development agreements, software licensing, and other transactional matters.
Prior to joining Shook, Hardy & Bacon, Keith was an associate at an intellectual property boutique firm. Keith has also worked as a patent attorney for the Department of the Navy’s Office of General Counsel at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in Arlington, VA. By statute, the ONR has the authority to dictate all intellectual property matters pertaining to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. At the ONR, Keith developed a broad range of experience, including working with Navy scientists in patent prosecution, assisting the Department of Justice in patent infringement litigation and trade secret administrative claims and appeals, working on licensing matters with government contractors and inventors, and advising various Naval commands around the world on matters pertaining to copyrights, trade secrets, patents, and intellectual property clauses in contracts. Keith also gained significant experience working with various universities and contractors in matters pertaining to the Bayh-Dole Act, FAR and DFARS clauses, technology transfer, and CRADAs.
Keith is a graduate of Northeastern University (Computer Science) and New England Law | Boston. He is the outgoing President of the Kansas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property section, and was recently selected as one of 100 Hot List Lawyers of Color in the Midwest Region.
